1850 Storey-Hollis Home

An interior refresh for a family of four with deep Southern roots and a love for folk art.

Built in 1840, the home was originally located south of the city and was moved to its current location in 1870 when Mrs. Storey refused to move into town without her home. (historical information provided by owner). The addition was completed in 1939 by famed Georgia born architect, Henry J. Toombs.

We commissioned the bird sculpture over the mantel from Chris Condon who hand carved and hand painted the birds made specifically for this site. We also found the carved eagle from a local antique shop. The clients have a wonderful collection of folk art mainly focused on paintings and pottery all of which they collect locally.

The family loves the outdoors and also loves a bit of whimsy so we tried to play that up in the interior and fabric selections with a style resulting in something like - eclectic southern tradition. The furniture is a mixture of old and new, meant to feel as if it was collected over time. We divided the large room into two conversation groups, one area is for tv watching and perhaps the other side is for reading. A large space that can seat many people, it is a perfect place for entertaining.

For the Dining room & Stair hall, we used much of the client’s family pieces, we restyled these rooms and let the historic architecture and details do the rest. The exterior is painted in a scheme that is of the period and time worn details are allowed to shine through.
